Tesla Optimus AI
In brief
Tesla Optimus AI is the in-house neural network stack that runs on Tesla's Optimus humanoid. It shares architecture and training infrastructure with Tesla's Full Self-Driving stack, applied to humanoid embodiment.
Tesla's claim is that humanoid AI and self-driving AI are deeply analogous: both are vision-first, both run on the same neural-net silicon, and both benefit from the same scale of fleet data collection. Optimus AI inherits Tesla's pure-vision philosophy — no LIDAR, neural-network depth estimation — and the same training infrastructure that produced FSD.
Public demos through 2024–2026 have shown manipulation, walking, and supervised teleoperation. Production Optimus units (Gen 3 unveil planned 2026) will be the first at-scale public test of the Tesla approach.
