New York school introduces AI humanoid robot teacher Sally

Salamanca High School in New York introduces Sally, a 5'2" humanoid robot, as a teaching assistant for upper grades. Sally features lifelike silicone skin and designed facial expressions. The school district emphasizes that the $57,000 robot won't replace human teachers and operates on a closed AI system with no student data transmitted to manufacturers.

What this means to you

Most students and teachers will not see a humanoid robot in the classroom anytime soon. Still, Salamanca's paused pilot shows where school technology may eventually be heading. Giving AI a face and a voice could make lessons more engaging. It could also lead students to trust the technology more quickly than they would trust a typical computer program. #### Support grows for school cellphone bans as districts address screen time
