From August 22 to 26, 2026, more than 2,000 humanoid robots from 16 countries gathered in Beijing, China, for the second World Humanoid Robot Games. Over five action-packed days, these metallic athletes competed in 51 events. This was a big increase from the 2025 games. That year, about 500 robots competed in just 26 events. In the field event, another robot achieved a standing high jump of 9.44 feet (2.88 m) That was higher than the human standing high jump record of 5.57 feet (1.70 m). It also topped the human high-jump record of 8.03 feet (2.45 m), which allows athletes to use a running start.
But testing speed and strength was only part of the story. The games also included 21 challenges focused on everyday tasks. Set up in mock factories, homes, hotels, and disaster zones, they were designed to test if robots could handle different jobs. These included sorting packages, connecting electrical wires, and responding to emergencies.
The 2026 Humanoid Robot Games showed just how quickly robots are advancing. With every new competition, the line between science fiction and real life gets a little thinner.
