Malfunctions Worth Gold at the Robot Olympics | by Jeff Hayward | Ai-Ai-OH | Aug, 2026

The World Humanoid Robot Games is described by organizers as “the world’s first international, comprehensive science and technology sports event with humanoid robots as the primary competitors.”

Launching last year, the second instalment of the Games ran Aug. 22–26, showcasing more than 2,000 robots in a variety of competitions, including a 100-meter sprint, a 1,500-meter race, a high jump, and even gymnastics and “freestyle fighting” among others.

There were definitely some hilarious moments recorded. Except these Games are not supposed to be funny; they are supposed to show off the latest advancements in China’s robot technology.
