CAMBRIDGE, U.K. —Approximately 80% of humanoid robots and prototypes developed to date are designed for industrial settings, according to new research from IDTechEx.

The trend is creating engineering challenges as developers balance the strength, weight and battery capacity required for robots expected to handle loads and operate in manufacturing environments. IDTechEx says industrial humanoids weigh an average of 78 kilograms, with some wheeled models exceeding 100 kilograms.
